Vacation '07 - Page 2

Another week and here we are back on the west side of the Rockies at Granby, waiting for Amtrak

And here it comes, almost on time.

We left Granby and chased it up to Tabernash, where the road parallels the tracks towards Fraser.

As we pull into the Amtrak shed at Fraser, Amtrak is pulling in for a station stop.

As Amtrak left Fraser, we thought that if we hurry, I might be able to get a shot at the West Portal, and I took this while running towards the train!

Skip ahead a few more days, and as we are heading back towards Western Colorado, we stopped in Byers Canyon so I could get some pics of the rocks. And as I was mentioning to my dad how cool it would be to have a train roll thru, I hear the sweet sounds of squeeling wheels and brakes. And here comes Amtrak!

Road on the left, tracks on the right.

This was the last I'd see of Amtrak the rest of the vacation, but what an exit!

As we made our way back to AZ, we decided to head down the dirt road that follows the Dotsero Cutoff. And I wasn't dissapointed!

Another DPU on the end of this loaded coal train, heading towards Denver and points East.

As we caught up with the train, it was taking the hole for a meet with a westbound.

When we finally got to one of the camp spots, I got to see that coal train come by again.

Mid train help. You can just barely see the Colorado River below the green hopper.

Yes, this is how close the road is to the tracks, and in some places, it gets even closer.

Looking towards Bond.

Here is an empty sitting at Bond, waiting to head up the Craig Branch.

Here we are at State Bridge with an empty running west for more coal, all strung out around the curve. This would be the last time I'd see trains on this vacation. Man, what a great time!
