Here we have SD40-2 #5052. This was the first locomotive I detailed, so it's a little rough due to my inexperience. I found quite a few pictures on the web of this particular locomotive to work from. This loco started as a Kato Snoot Nose SD40-2 #5026. I cut the nose from a SD40 and mounted the brake wheel from the snoot onto it. I erased the stock cab numbers with a pencil eraser and added Microscale number decals. I also painted over the stock numberboards and added Shell Scale number decals to there as well. All the walkways were painted blue to match the prototype. I added BLMA antenna and base, an AC unit, I relocated the horn to the long hood and mounted a Sunrise Enterprises beacon where the the stock horn was. I added BLMA windshield whipers, MU hoses, cut levers, air hoses, rear veiw mirrors and sun shades, a Sunrise Enterprises plow and mounted some Z scale couplers on it. One thing that was missing from the stock loco was the anticlimber. I cut one from an Atlas SD60 and mounted it on the front, used some BLMA walkway tread to cover the top, and glued the stock handrails back on top (minus the drop step and recepticle). I added some airlines to the trucks and then I gave it a bit of weathering with chalks. When the shell was done, I added a Digitrax DZ123 Decoder to the loco to finish it off. Now it's ready for service on the Owens Valley Sub.
